Question which cassette adapter for MP3s

I've read several posts indicating that cassette adapters can be used with MP3 players. The one I bought (from Wal-Mart) didn't work with my LS400 '98. It seemed to attempt to rewind it and then would not play.

So has anyone had better luck? Which cassette adapter did you use and where did you get it? What was the audio quality like -- could you recommend it?

Thanks in advance Ed E.

I have one from walmart and works great for me....can't admit it has the greatest sound but gets the job done.

Make sure the cord is facing out to the shortest side of the tape and make sure its facing the side its supposed to be. (You prolly tried all these things but ya never know)

Maxell one from Circuit City $20. is the best I've found, plays in both directions. Sony would be second choice.

What's the model on the Sony one you bought at Circuit City? I just picked up a Sony CPA-9C and it's refusing to work on my '02 GS300. When I insert it, the display says it's playing and then after about 5 seconds it spits out the tape adapter. I really don't want to use a FM modulator.

See above post. Take your Sony one back and exchange it for the Maxell one if they carry it. The Sony is not working because it is not providing the tape deck the proper feedback to make it think the tape is playing. The Maxell should work better.

HOLY CRAP! I figured out what the problem was after much frustration. Apparently, the last owner decided to use his tape deck as a "change" holder. Out of curiousity I took a flash light and see what's going inside the tape deck and found the problem. 3 quarters, 2 nickels, and 4 pennies later the tape adapter works like a champ!

i got a sony tape adapter too and it spits out the tape after 4-5 trys. then finally it might start working fine. it's really frustrating. also, it seems when i use the tape adapter, there is minimal sound out of my rear speakers-anyone else have this problem? (when i play regular tapes, the sound is fine...)
