Default GS400 Amp install question.

This one is pretty simple ... Is there an easy way to access 12VDC power in the truck of a stock GS400 (1998 w/o Nak), or do you have to do it the custom install way by tearing everthing apart and running separate power from the battery? Not looking for a ton of power or a perfectionist setup, just want to install a small bridged mono amp to drive the rear deck sub for a bit more punch and flexibility (actually not the stock sub, a beefy aftermarket sub that I already have).

I would still try to run the cable from the battery since your amp will be drawing a lot more current than most of these 18 gauge wires can handle for your amp.......It's really not very hard.....shouldn't take more than 90 minutes if you already know how to take apart ur car

Question GS400 Amp install question

Is there a power run that is tied to the ignition in the trunk anywhere so I can quickly hook up an amp to test it? Where is the amp for the stock sub / stereo located? I have searched the forums for an answer, but have not found one to be conclusive. Another option might be to install a better amp in the place of the stock amp. Help is much appreciated !

GS4man,

The stock amp is located near the glove box by the kick panel area, right side. You have to remove some carpeting to get at it but it's way up there. As for a quick 12 volt test, there really isn't any way to do it since the lighting in the trunk is probably rated at only 1 amp or so. You wouldn't want to draw any power from that or you risk blowing the fuse. You're better tearing everything apart and running a dedicated and fused power wire for the amp.
