Other Possibilities
E - If the system's on when U turn the car off, then it's gonna happen. Also, as U said, if the amp gain is maxed out it's typical. But U might want to check your grounding points - sometimes if they're not secure the amp it's grounding will pop. Additionally, if your interconnects are running close to the power wire, not only can that cause the pop but also injects noise into the system. Just some things to check on.

Actually, I bought two things from this one company that someone on this board recommended.
I bought a NEW high-low converter
A bought a trigger that turns on/off the sub through current through a speaker wire (therefore, the key doesn't turn on-off the amp)
My old hi-low converter from Circuit CITY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This new one, OMG, first off, less distortion! Also, I don't get the thump anymore from stock headunit...therefore I have this trigger that is just lying around in my toolbox
Now, I spent $40 for hi-low and $30 for the trigger...
O yeah, the company is PAC. The link is somewhere in the this Electronics thread.

no, myself...in 100 degree WEATHER!! I had to turn the amp ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THE WAY Down...
I turned the hi-low converter .25 clockwise and turned amp only .25 clockwise
And that was down with the headunit on 12 oclock bass
Trying to find linky to PAC...i know they have some weird URL... but can't find on LExus Electronics anymore
I have NO "boomp" anymore! And I didn't have install the trigger sensor.

When I first added my aftermarket amp and subs to the OEM ES system, my subs "thumped" too when I turned off the ignition. An easy remedy to this was: I installed a small, simple switch under the dash by the fuse box (out of site) to interrupt the ignition/amp turn-on wire. I would just turn off the amp with this switch before I would turn off the ignition. This was also a good fix for when you just wanted to listen to the OEM system without any heavy bass...just switch off the amp.
Anyway, I don't use this method anymore since I installed an aftermarket in-dash Sony disc player. No more thump.
