Backup cameras
I know there is quite a few people here on CL that have the Eclipse 2454 head unit. I was wondering if anybody has used a keyhole backup camera with the unit, if so what type of camera do I need to look for. I have a 2001 GS430.

Before buying the BEC105 for that 2454, keep in mind that that camera will not automatically turn on when you engage into reverse.
You will have to go into the info menu and manually switch it. What you really need is the BEC103.
I bought the BEC104 for my 2454 and found out that i had to manually switch it, so I sold it.
Its obviously a marketing tactic that eclipse pulls on their customers.

I went through the same effort when I put in my 2454, decided against the Eclipse camera because it was a big boxy thing and got an aftermarket keyhole camera instead. Note I did buy and use the Eclipse camera for the wiring and just spliced it to the keyhole camera so I didn't have to use up the A/V inputs on the camera.

Details of my system and some pics of the keyhole and the camera in operation in this post
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...hlight=contest I still have some work to do on mine at some point (not high priority) to get a fuller screen picture.
Yes, you have to push an option on the nav screen to enable the camera, but I never expected it to work automatically... how would it know?

well you hook it up to a relay and tap the wire that turns on the light for reverse light. That should work fine. Also I dont got a key hole in the trunk any other options

EV ftw!!!
I just wanted to bump up this thread as I am also in the market for a backup camera.
I have heard that the keyhole ones don't provide a "natural" view of the rear - but a more rounded look (sort of cut-off) and not like some others that have the 120 degree angle.
Which one did you get?

ive got BEC104 hooked up to an Audiovox rear view mirror with LCD built in
its pretty darn good quality IMO
auto switches on when i put gear into reverse
contrast can be adjusted on the mirror unit
i have stock navigation screen but it makes more sense to have the camera display up on rear view mirror

no, i got it installed professionally
wires are all hiden nicely
camera is temporarily taped up to the trunk just above the license plate
im using 3M commanche double sided tape to tape it up and so far it has been holding it good
the audiovox rearview mirror is an add-on that has straps for strapping onto the stock rear view mirror
so if im selling this car today, i can take the whole rear view camera system out without any holes or damages to the car
