I'm replacing the stock SC300 premium system amplifier with a Precision Power 6 channel amp (PC650). Can I just splice an RCA plug onto the existing amplifier inputs or do I need to add line level converters? The PC650 does not accept high level inputs. I think another way of asking this question is, are the line inputs into the amplifier considered pre-amp outs from the stock head unit?
I'm familiar with the 933005spd stereo hack - great help!!
Thanks in advance,
Kevin

LLC's
Kevin - I'd opt for the LLC over just splicing into the factory head - signal will be cleaner because U'll be actually changing the higher speaker level output signal into a lower line level one. Also, U can get some with adjustable volume controls to help fine tune things. I believe Audio Control is the favorite amongst the members here.

Navone N-914V
Thanks. I noticed that the amp does have a -12 db attentuation button for when using head unit leads but I'm guessing you still think I should use the LLC. I've seen in a previous post that Tom has used a Navone N-914V. Anybody have any information/thoughts on this product?

The navone are very good down converters, I think there number is 800 669-6139, ask for Vicky she has worked there for around 7-8 years and is very helpfull.
The idea is to get as much input voltage as possibe that way you can turn down the gain on the amp so you have a lower noise floor, it will not be any cleaner in the sound (how can a down converter clean up the sound?), just safer. I think most amps reference the sheild of the rca to ground so the down converter will isolate the two.
A side note If you ppi amp could accept around 10-11 volts(25-30watts out of radio) and had balanced inputs you could use the speaker outputs and not worry about finding the down converter- I dont think it does, this would be a very nice setup but most amps do not have balanced inputs. Hope this helps
