Need help understanding how factory alarm works
I have a '93 SC 300, all factory and I have never had the alarm go off from opening the trunk without unlocking the doors. Then this weekend, for the first time, I came out of a store, opened the trunk (without unlocking the doors) and the alarm went off. After consulting the manual it looks like if you lock the doors, wait 30 seconds, and then open the trunk without unlocking the doors, the alarm SHOULD sound. However, this has never happened in the six years I have owned the car except for this one time. Which way does it work on your cars?

My 94 SC3 alarm never sounds when I open the trunk using my key, never. I couldn't make it sound if I wanted to. The only way i can make it sound with the trunk is if the doors are locked and the alram armed, then I pull the trunk lever from inside the car. When I buy groceries, I always walk straight to the trunk and stick the key in and open it without first unlocking the doors, since my remote doesn't work anyway, no alarm ever.
