New Engine in 2016 MY?
#17
Let me clear a lot of misinformation up.
Per my Lexus factory rep, last week:
The '16 IS will come with the 2.0T engine. It is a twin-scroll design, not twin turbo.
The engine has been a huge success and will also be available in the RC, as well as the GS for 2016 models.
The 2.0T produces 235hp and 258 lbs of tq. This will be a huge improvement over the archaic 2.5 V6.
If they do not upgrade the 3.5 V6 in the 350, then Ill be gladly switching to the turbo IS, as it provides comparable performance.

Oh that's really great to hear. I really hope that the fuel economy numbers are pretty good with the new engine. I think the MB C-Class 300RWD is best in-class with 34/25/28 mpg. Also, wonder if there will be any other adjustments for MY16. Lexus desperately needs a new infotainment system. The current one is pretty awful compared to its competitors.
Knowing that the MY16 will get the new engine, I'll probably be deciding between the IS and the upcoming 2017 Audi A4, depending on how it looks come the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

Have driven an NX200t F Sport today. Not impress even in Sport+ mode, a noticeable difference in acceleration over IS250 only in 4000-5000 RPM range. The start doesn't impress at all, the sound is a typical unpleasant 4 cyl clinking. So I'm not waiting for the IS200t anymore after this test drive )

Working as a sales person at a dealership takes you just one step over an ostrich as far as Toyota / Lexus marketing plans go. The factory for the IS is in Japan and there are no such thing as "factory reps". Why would the factory need reps, they have a dedicated international distribution network already. US based dealers have access to "marketing" staff that work for Toyota and Lexus USA and any anyone else Lexus USA invites over to do the dealer circuit to pass out the kool aid. If you were a dealership owner, then maybe you would have more info as they make significant financial investments based on those future marketing plans.
What we can rely on somewhat, and that again can change once engineering and marketing are done with the details, is that Templin has publicly stated that the 2.0l twin scroll turbo will be in the USDM IS and that they have already announced the same engine for the ES in the Chinese market. Conceivably that means it could make it to the USDM ES as well.

saw your post in the other thread. if you have to wait cause the car you want is back ordered and if you're not in a rush, 4-5 months will fly by and you will have the option of getting a MY 16. and if there's no updates you like, then you can get a better deal on a '15, if your dealer is still getting them at that time.

Turbos are great...till they go and you have to replace it (or them).
This is part of the reason I bought my 2015 IS 350 FSport over a German car.
I'll pass on the turbo!
