How much to ask for a trade in?

This is what I did when I did a trade-in. Carmax is pretty fair with their quotes (actually it's not just a quote, but an actual cash offer of what they will pay for your car).

Is this car still under warranty? I might be interested. I'm deployed Navy and won't be back in CA until mid-April, though... I'm in the San Diego area.
Cheers,
Eric

Ok my fellow Lexus owners and Clublexus members. I have some news to share
As I stated on my original post I was planning to get S3 and trade in my 3IS. So it happened.
I got a smoking deal on a brand new Sepang Blue S3 with prestige package, performance package and advanced tech package (adaptive cruise control lane assist etc). MSRP on S3 was $51,495 and they gave it to me for a little ove $47000, that is over 8% off MSRP. This is probably the best deal that I heard someone got on S3.
Audi bought my 3IS with 21600 miles on it for 35,500, which I believe is a really good price.
I am still digesting all new info but I will post all the details and pictures in a few days.
Thanks everyone.

When my 3IS 3,000 miles and was around 2-3 months old I wanted to buy BMW and the trade was appraised at that time 39,500.
KBB values my 3IS of $34,500
NADA values my car around $36,000
So yes I didnt get a smoking deal on my trade but at least I know I didnt get ripped.

Mines a 2014. If I was going to pull the trigger it would be a big maybe 39000.lexus holds it value very well. I'm happy for you but I would of shop around before considered 35500.you lost too much 43000-35500 that's eight thousand difference in one year. Just my opinion.

Just about all new vehicles takes a huge hit the first year.
No way he can get the $41K you posted.
The trade in Audi dealer can't get $41K.

S3's initial impression
Here is my initial impression of my brand new S3.
S3 has a noticeable turbo lag. Everytime you press the gas pedal and there is a pause. This is especially very noticeable after naturally aspirated V6 of IS350, which has immediate and linear acceleration. Once the power comes in and turbo spools then something magical happens, something that I would only dream in Lexus. Enormous power and torque. And the torque keeps flat all the way till the red line. The car handles fantastic. There a lot less understeer than 3IS. S3 is very well balanced and light on its feet.
Interior is well Lexus is more comfortable IMO. Sound insulation is way better in Lexus than in S3. S3 has stronger tire noise. I think it is all personal preference though. S3 however has everything real inside. For example, real leather, real aluminum accents (3IS has plastic metal like finish on vents)
and center console is better build overall.
I will write more later as I keep more miles on my Audi but I gotta share this one with you guys.
THE SAME NIGHT I BROUGH MY S3 FROM A DEALER, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED MAKING CLUNKING NOISE. This is ridiculous. You turn steering right and left and there is strong clunking noise and you feel the vibration on the steering. I did not notice it when I test drove but now my S3 is at service and I have been given A3 as a loaner. This is unbelievable!
Ironically I was aggressively defending Audi as it has become a lot more reliable and here comes a problem the first day I bought the car. wow

F Sport Intake and F Sport front brake pads are available
Hey there, since I got rid of my car I have kept F Sport intake (full package i.e. top part of airbox, filter, a metal tube and couplers). Please pm me if interested.
I also have F Sport brake pads that I bought but never used them. I will sell both as a package.
