Default Ultra white and tire shine= no go???

hey guys finally picked up my car yesterday!!! love it! but as i was talking to the sales manager yesterday he mentioned that you cant use tire shine on this color because if it whips off and gets on the paint it stains it because of what they use in the paint?? i have never heard of this before and kinda was surprised when he said that...have any of you guys with UW used tire shine and have any problems with it? or is he full of crap?? thanks!

Unfortunately, there's truth to that. A couple of early posters mentioned similar issues and had a difficult time removing the dark stains. See post from dojoman:

use a tire shine product that isnt oil based. I like to use Chemical Guys New Car Shine dressing which is water based. It is medium gloss so it doesnt look tacky like ultra shine armor all

Yes, my car was stained from using oil based tire coating from dealer. Since then I've started using water based gel from Opti-Bond. Although my stain are harder to see now probably because overtime stain disappeared by itself from UV but still don't recommend oil base.

I use Meguiars Hot Shine spray in the can on my current car and my daughter's white Kia Soul and haven't had any problems with it spraying onto the cars. I will use it on my UW IS when I get it, but I will also be opti-coating the car for added security. I have used other tire shine products, to include Meguiar's Endurance that do spray onto the car.

Meguiars hot shine is oil based but as long as if used gently it should be fine. Don't overspray too much. Tire slinging will spray onto the body and it will stain. If you wipe off after first drive off it should be fine. Stain actually comes from combination of chemical reaction from oil in tire dressing and chemicals from tire wall itself.

apply it with an applicator instead of spraying it on, that way you get an even coat and no excess to sling

Get something "silicone free". Body shops that have good downdraft spray booths cannot use ANY silicone based product - even window cleaner. The silicone in any product will ruin a paint job as it the particles float in the air and will ruin the clear coat causing fish eyes.

Same would go for this, use silicone free, as it is made for body shop conditions that require sensitive air when spraying cars.

TLDR;
Get silicone free tire shine, as it won't stain, it's main purpose is for 'clean' environments. Water based will be very milky and can be a pain to 'wipe excess' off.

More info from AutoGeek on the very topic, touches on what I said above regarding bodyshops/sensitive paint, which is what UW is.... http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...etter-why.html

I've heard good thing about Tuf Shine which is permanent tire shine. I just ordered the kit and report back how it goes. There are a lot of positive reviews on this product. I like the idea of permanent shine without having to keep applying after a car wash. Definitely something to consider.
