Lexus Smart Card Key (Credit Card Key)
Hey guys,
Just showing you how the credit card key looks like. It has no buttons and works like the original key fob. Just walk close to the car and put hand on handle to open.
It is the thickness of about 3 credit cards. (last picture). Length and width is slightly shorter than a credit card. And now my pocket is down to two things: wallet and cell phone!
I got it from Sewell parts using our CL discount. Came out to be $259.32 + shipping. My local dealer charged 1/2 hour of labor to program it ($72)

That's a great deal. I was hesitant in investing 400-500$ (Ebay) on this but at about $300, I may buy it afterall as it's so convenient. I have it with my RX F-Sport, it's always in my wallet, and never have to worry about keys anymore and for both cars!
For those concerned about pairing or durability, it's extremely solid and for the RX, works with the other 2 key fobs we got as well (they're collecting dust). I expect the same for the IS as it's just another "copy" (in a different format) of the key though worst case, if I have to sacrifice one key fob, I'm fine with that.
alopez: you can buy this at the dealer, but expect double the cost.

I keep my card wallet in my front pants legs. Can't be taken from pickpockets and doesn't hurt to sit on.
I bought one of those keypad locks for the house
my other keys still work
get it from here http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2014/6288.html and register using your club lexus name to get the discount.
Corrado sums it up pretty well

You do lose the physical remote button to pop the trunk or the doors from a distance with the wallet key card, but pressing the button in between the license plate light will allow you to open the trunk as it senses the proximity of the key card (it's how it works with the RX and other Lexus).
What's also neat about the wallet card is like the remote key fob, it has an actual slim physical key that slides out from the side in the event of an electronic malfunction with the card (i.e. battery dies). It's amazing to think that such a thin 3mm piece of plastic houses electronics, battery, and a physical key. Here's a pic of my card from the RX.

And just another FYI, Sewell sells the mechanical key separately, not required but a good backup like Corrado said. That was another $70.
