I'm one of the more vocal critics of the 3IS, in particular the engine (still) being used in the IS350 (and 250 for that matter), but a 328 is certainly not faster than a 3IS 350.

Yeah 328i has no chance against an IS350. **** it, the IS350 sounds way better than the 328i anyway

I think one possible explanation why the 328i 'FELT' faster was due to the throttle & throttle mapping. The throttle pedal in all Lexus has very long travel to make for a smoother drive experience.

The BMW throttle pedal doesn't have much travel distance, I'm always surprised at how little pressure you push the throttle and its already at WOT!

And that makes sense since the 328i is a boosted 4-cyl it needs to rev so BMW has no choice but for this type of throttle mapping to make the car feel lively. Besides the 328i & even 335i have shorter gear ratios than both IS250 & IS350! Agian to help them rev quicker and make boost!

I never liked the 328i it felt and sounded like a diesel, the power band 'feels' narrow and it shifts gear too early 1-2-3rd too quickly. Just Like a diesel.

^^Why is this a bad thing? Criticizing and comparing is what makes the forum alive and keeps away fanboyism.

i went to test drive the 3IS few days ago. And yes........its quite heavy. You really need to floor it to get it going. Somehow i feel my 2IS is quicker (just for 0-60).

I've driven all types of cars, some very, very underpowered and in no situation have I ever had the need to 'floor' any.

I highly doubt the new IS350 needs to be floored every. Besides the 3IS is heavier than the 2IS, but not enough to feel the difference.

If you want cheap and fast, get the Aurion, just as fast as IS350, but much cheaper.. Both have the super smooth and powerful 2GR motors..

Its true that the 3IS is heavier but its only marginal. Just because a car feels quicker, it doesnt mean it is. My wife's 2005 C220 CDI feels quicker than my RX450h. Probably due to the mountain of torque, but watch the needle and its nowhere near as fast. I think the 05 C220 CDI did 0-60mph in about 11 seconds

How do I know?

Watch this, an AWD GS350 vs a 328i on the highway :

http://youtu.be/obca4JgwFlQ

http://youtu.be/MD0A4P6MDv8

The GS350 is AWD, thus heavier than a RWD GS, has more drivetrain losses by virtue of being an AWD, has the normal 6 speed yet easily SPANKS the 328i on the highway pull.

A RWD IS350 is lighter, has less drivetrain loss, has the fast shifting ISF 8 speed gearbox, well....you do the math.
Thank you!

Let's see that GS350 is heavier, has less gears & is AWD, yet it literally dusted the 328i.

Anyone who thinks the 328i is 'as fast' as the IS350 is being way over the top..
