Default '06 IS250 awd rear differential gears

Ring and pinion gears are shot. Spider gears are still good. Are there any aftermarket makers of these gears or is it a dealership only purchase? 800 bicks sounds a bit steep for gears. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe this is a 4:10 ratio (Y10 differential) ?

there are only aftermarket diff/gearing for the RWD models. Some people have used the diff off of the IS-F or is300. For AWD, I don't think you can change the gearing because you would have to change it in both the front and rear diff or else you will get mismatched speeds and VSC warnings for days.

Since the is250 AWD was far less popular than the RWD model, chances are there are no aftermarket gearing options even if it was using an alternate diff

Your only option right now is to replace with factory components. I'd recommend sourcing a known good, working used unit and swap it in WITH the right fluids.

Thanks for the input guys. The used option is what I'm going with right now. But, to confirm, I should be looking for the Y10 differential with 4:10 ratio, correct?

800 sounds like a decent price for me. i don't think I've ever replaced gears for less than 1000

Believe it or not, I actually have that on my watch list right now. I'm going to check on one here locally tomorrow. Just hoping I get the correct diff. Again thanks for the help guys. I think I'm gonna love this forum. This car still has a ton of good left in her and I plan on working on it to get her right again.

yeah I was gonna say 800 is a bit steep when you can find a complete diff used for FAR less. Plus with a used diff, you can open it up and inspect it before putting it on the car

Just make sure if you get a used one that it's from an 06-08, 09+ are different.

06 07 08 09 10 11 12 Lexus IS250 Differential Carrier Rear 65K AWD 4 10 Y10 | eBay

Shot an offer on this one. Got it for $250.

Jeff, sorry I haven't responded till now. Thanks so much for input. I have to ask, why are all these I've seen saying 06 thru 12? You're the only person who has said anything about there being a difference. What is the difference? Curiosity has the best of me now.

2006-2008 use a 180mm differential, 2009-2013 use a 205mm differential. The later ones will not fit your driveshaft, subframe, or rear axles.

Great news about the used diff working out for you!

As usual, great fine details about the diff there Jeff.
