Default Burning Plastic Smell under hood

So I have an 07 250 with 80,000 miles, and I just noticed a burning plastic smell I think coming from the top right of the engine. I don't think its a burning rubber type smell its a smell like overheating plastic. You guys have any ideas? I have checked for a plastic bag and cant find anything.

AWD or RWD? If AWD check your CV's in the front. They give more of a burning rubber smell when the grease starts flying from a torn boot but still, just check them if it's AWD.

ETA: Maybe something leaned or landed on your exhaust or exhaust manifolds and melted.

There is also a noticeable wine when I rev the engine. Not loud but noticeable. Still alternator?

I just had my car in for the 80000 service and new tires. You would think they would have noticed this on one of the tests they do.

^An AutoZone reman replacement was only $160 for me...with core. Of course I DIY'd the removal and install. Honestly very straight-forward process.

And yes about the squealing; I've read of quite a few cases where the clutches or bearing of the alternator starts to go out and causes such issues.

Go to your local auto parts store and have them check the alternator. Go ahead and get them to order you one, so they have it in stock. It will be a "special order"; they won't carry it on the shelves automatically.

check your mid-pipe or under your headers... few months ago had a plastic grocery bag stuck underneath which the car ran over and caught on the mid-pipe on the freeway... it smell like melting plastic for months and it still does sometimes cuz not everything got melted off...

definitely check under the cat/mid pipe area to see if there's a plastic that got caught. It happened to me several months ago and yes there were a strong plastic burn for weeks lol
