Angry My sc caught on fire!

I was out side playing with my little girl when all of a sudden I see something that looks like the wind blowing dirt around.I took a closer look and it was smoke coming from the hood. I poped the hood and seen fire coming from the alternator.I grabed the water hose and put out the fire. Can anyone tell me what might have started the fire please? I really love my car and will do what I must to get it running again.

No just the alternator but the funny thing is yesterday my dad said he thought he smelled something burning and it was coming from the area of my alternator that was after I took my battery to get tested because the battery light was on.After we installed the battery we smelled it burning but I was able to drive to work that evening.

check the wiring before you pull the alt to see if anything is touching, but the regulator probably went south in the alt.

The power steering pumps when going bad typically leak directly onto the alternator which is mounted beneathe the power steering pump on these Lexus's..This should have been a recall by Lexus to be honest, this happens alot.....A power steering leak could have caused an electrical fire although I have never heard of that happening...I would suggest you check for a power steering leak in additon to anything else you do...If you change the alternator and still have the power steering leak it will damage your newly installed alternator with in no time at all...

yea but it is a sc300 the powersteering is on the other side its a alternator problem if you dont have any oil leaks coming from the distributor jus cheack to see if the wires that connect to the alt is fried ,if not have an electrician look at it before installing a new one

Obviously, your car was just helping you decide what to spend your improvement money on.

I will have my car towed tomorrow. I wanted to have a Lexus dealer look at it for me but they are 2 hours away from me so will mitsubishi do or nissan or even toyota?

I was referring to the SC400's with the alternator leaking problems...The SC300's are different...
