Weird comment about Hankook Ventus V12 from a reputable tire center
So I called a local reputable tire center to get pricing on Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 in 265/30/19 (to go on a 19x10 wheel - pretty much standard around here). The rep on the phone looked it up and told me that that particular tire and the size I asked about cannot withstand the weight of an IS250. He suggested I go to 275/30/19 if I want to be safe. What is that about? Does anyone know anything about that?

All tires have load ratings. "Reputable tire centers" use those ratings along with what vehicle manufacturers reccomend, along with their own experience to decide which tires they will put on which vehicles. Your "reputable tire center" didn't get a good reputation by putting tires on cars that are near the load ratings. Chances are you will be fine, but the seller isn't willing to gamble his reputation on that chance.

Yeah, Discount Tire told me the same thing when I wanted them to install 225/35/18 BFG KDWs onto my stock front wheels. They have an "87" load rating, which is lower than factory, but fine when actually factoring in the real weight of the car/fuel/passengers. Mom-and-Pop tire shop installed them without question.
