Redout rear lights need new bulbs?
Hi,
Want to red out my rear lights and I am going to do it the cheap way i.e. vinyl cut outs that I seen available and recommended here on CL:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lexus-IS350-...item2309d20b31
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/06-08-LEXU...item564c442d85
What I want to know is, once I put the vinyl on, do I need a new orange bulb for the indicator?
Thanks
Tom

I thought a new bulb might be needed as on my old car I did a similar thing but that had a white bulb with an orange lens which is why it appeared orange. Due to the snow at the moment, I didnt fancy trying to get the bulb out to check - so it's lazyness on my part really.
Also, I have seen just that piece of the rear light cluster being sold on ebay which made it the "expensive" method to me and it was only because I stumbled across another thread which showed the vinyl strips.
Again, thanks for the help!

Thanks for clearing that up.

I believe (in a very small sweeping nutshell) that the law on lights here state that as long as they are not colours used by emergency services i.e. police, amubulance, fire engines etc then it is ok. This even applies to under car neons I believe. Whether the police are a pain and just pull you over because they can is another issue....
I had them on the old car which passed every time, so for the price, I am happy to risk it and just remove them come MOT time if they do not pass.
Out of interest, can someone tell me if my rear lights are LED lights or not? they look like they could be when they are on, but compared the aftermarket "lexus" lights that you can buy for any car, the LED's seem "blurry" and so I just want to be sure. They came standard on the car and not an aftermarket upgrade:
Oh, and please ignore the Tom's badge as it was a silly impulse buy but very fitting for me.
Thanks,
Tom

For anyone who cares, you do need new bulbs to make it shine orange, otherwise it is a red flashing light as attested to in this thread as well:

Thanks for confirming that they are LED.
When you say that aftermarket ones have more LEDs in them , do you mean that the each bulb has more LEDs per cluster on each bulb or that there are more physically more bulbs - or even a mixture of both.........hopefully you will know what I mean.
Also, I have purchased my red out vinyl strips today so hopefully the weather will be good this weekend and I can fit them!
