Oil consuming like crazy
I have a 06 lexus is250. I noticed my indicator light on my dash and it said low engine oil level. I was thinking i just changed it 1300 miles ago. I changed it once more and kept track this time. Within 3 weeks my level is now down to nearly the low mark again. What is going on? Help someone... thanks in advance

the amount of oil consumed depends on the viscosity and quality of oil you are using. are you using the recommended 5w-30 for the vehicle? if you do a lot of speeding/ quick acceleration/ quick deceleration, you're going to be burning through oil like no other.
if you are burning more than 1.1 qt of oil in 600 miles or less, take it to a dealer.

im using 5w-30. my driving hasnt changed i drive normal and speed limit like ive always have. that is why im not understanding what went wrong. but still 3 weeks with that much burning is still too much. even for an aggressive driver in my opinion

if you're 100% positive theres no leaks and driving style hasnt changed, i would say go to the dealer and have them do oil consumption monitoring. but do tell them within 3 weeks you are 1 quart low on the dipstick. what they'll probably want to do is do an oil change for you and seal off the oil cap, drain plug and oil filter housing then tell you to come back in after a certain mileage or date.

burning oil should never be ":normal".
obviously your motor is burning oil, now its time time to find out what is causing it. valve stems, piston rings, or maybe even a pvc valve (a problem i had on my Z).

Burning oil is never normal, take it to the dealer or anyone you trust to check it out.

burning oil and consuming oil are likely two different issues. Burning oil will cause smoke from the tail pipes and stink to high heaven while consuming oil would be an issue where the oil is getting used or leaked somewhere in the motor.
Of course, not all leaks make it to the ground where you can see them. The underside of our IS 250's have covers and pipes going every which way so you could have a leak that is getting caught in a panel (not 3 quarts worth) or is slowly making its way to a pipe where is burned off. You may smell something from time to time but it might not be enough to cause concern.
Something drastic could be a head gasket leak that would cause you to lose oil but it will not leak on the ground as it is leaked into the cooling system. I don't know if IS 250's could have this issue like some of the older cars but you never know.
Good luck!

thanks for all the suggestions. i am taking it to the lexus dealer this saturday. consuming or burning im not sure. no smoke out the exhaust and no oil seems to be leaking anywhere from what i can see either. i just hope this isn't going to be expensive low on cash with this whole christmas thing going on.

I have the exact same issue with my car! Still contacting Lexus atm and the issue has been escalated n im awaiting contact back again.
I absolutely checked everything as well, no leaks at the oil filter, sump, seals, exhaust..everything.
I do put my foot down very often though, a member on here noted that theres a TSIB out for high oil consumption, similar to the carbon build up issue.

You could be no putting enough oil in the engine.
2) Take loosing oil very serious, no oil means engine lock-up and I promise you this will be more expensive than 95% of the possible problems there may be.
3) When you did the last oil change did you calculate how much oil was used? I take the used oil from the oil pan and poor it into the New Quarts Oil can after the new oil is in the car to check and see how much oil was drained everytime I do my oil changes.
