Otherwise, if you were correct that you cannot have any tint at all, then all of our vehicles would already be out of compliance when we purchased them!

Yes, ceramic is better since it has heat rejection properties which metallic does not, and it does not contain metallic could interfere with electronics. Best way to phrase metallic based tint is almost as if putting an RF filter on your window.
Note, you do pay more for ceramic based tint. Since it rejects heat, it also retains heat better, therefore the car does not have to work as hard at maintaining temperature.

I'm in NY state and I have 35 all around, 20 in the back window (anything is legal) and just did 50% on the windshield. I have to say windshield tint is pretty awesome. Between not really having to use sunglasses and the drop in temperature its totally worth it. The only thing is with my black interior everything just got darker so I'm worried that I might get harassed.. Pre windshield tint I got pulled over once for tint at 3am and the officer didnt even give me a warning. At least I have a RD so I can get fair warning to lower my windows if a cop is on the prowl.
In terms of the OP, at 5% you're always gonna get harassed. I'd just go higher to avoid problems later on.

Its hot as hell down here in Miami so I'm taking a chance. I'm running 5% all around and 65% on my windshield. Now before someone says it I can see perfectly at night.

I took a picture of it but then deleted it because you really cant tell that the tint is on it. Ill go retake it if you really want lol
I know dude, thats why I got 5% in the first place. And it was hard to see at night at first but I got used to it. It was not as difficult as people make it out to be. I hope you dont run into an ahole trooper like I did! Good luck bro
