To Wash or Not To Wash/To Steam or Not To Steam??
I searched for answers and the few posts I found were outdated and years later, I figured more of us (IS) owners probably have either washed or steam cleaned our engines. The questions is, have any of you have encountered any issues after washing/steam cleaning (IS) engines?
What will be the best method besides using a cleaner and a rag? All covers will be removed top and bottom. Tires will probably be coming off as well. Some parts will be lubricated after the wash (where required).
There isn't anything wrong by having a nice clean car inside and outside/engine included

This should be in the detailing thread.
I just spray down the engine bay with water on the vertical setting on the nozzle. Then spray some citrus degreaser and use a EZ detailing brush to clean the engine bay. spray down the engine way with water again. Use electric leaf blower to dry the engine bay. Use dressing for the rubber and plastic parts of the engine bay. Done.

Partially, you are correct!! On the other hand, I started this thread mostly because I am concern about the mechanical or electric issues that compromise the washing or steaming of our engines.
The steps and products to be used when washing an engine I am not so much interested. I have washed other engines before and have covered only the carburator. In the most recent cars and just have left the car running but have not covered anything. With the latest models as Lexus Is250/350, I have not done any engine washing and I am interested in the problems one can encounter.
Thanks for your input. much appreciated
Moderators please close thread if it really should be in the detail section

Never wash your engine. Water is the enemy (inside and outside). Unless you've entered your Lexus in a rash of demolition derbies, today's modern motors do not get that caked. Take a damp rag you don't mind destroying or several damp paper towels and wipe down what needs cleaning. May take a while, but it's the safest way to clean while preserving the materials in there. I do this three times a year and the dealership laughs at how clean my guts looks when I take it in for service.

I would avoid steam cleaning and just get a hose, gentle all purpose cleaner(I prefer meguiar's APC+) and an ez detail brush. ez detail brush gets in the nooks and crannies well.
first, make sure you have a cooo/cold engine. Then I'll cover the alternator and battery with a plastic bag. Hose everything down with water. Spray some APC. Agitate with a brush well and get the dirtier areas. Rinse well with water. Dry with leaf blower. Wipe down all rubber with 303 aerospace
