Led inside the Projector

Here's an update. I'm about done with my projector fog light retrofit. It didn't come out as great as I hoped for but not bad for my first retrofit. Still not done yet and still not attached together. Might take me a month or two before I do this for my headlights though...

It's a red LED in the housing. I'm also going to put an LED into the headlight housing too and use these both when my parking lights are on. I took off the cutoff shield in these projectors since they were crap and making my own with aluminum sheets, I'll also paint them too while I'm at it. Do you know if the factory headlight cutoff shield can be painted by chance?

Yes it can be. The only thing that can't be painted is the chrome bowl. Painting the back of the cutoff shield (facing the bowl) does pretty much nothing though. Having paint on the top of the shield will affect your cutoff (whether in a good or bad way), so that's also something to note. Good luck on making the cutoff shield! It's tedious work getting clean cuts on the sheet and tuning it properly, but the result is well worth the effort. I made like 4 cutoff shields (my sheets were a bit too thick, and my razor blade got dull pretty quickly), and all of them weren't good enough for me, so I just left my OEM cutoff shield on.

The Duplicolor Black Chrome kit is terrible if you're wanting the black chrome look. Using too little makes it spotty, a little more makes it look green under sunlight, more will make it look reddish under sunlight, and the next thing you know, it's gloss black. It's great if you're wanting gloss black but black chrome, it won't look good.
