Default New to forums- HID help.

My drivers side HID turns on when I initially turn the headlights on then while I'm driving it goes out. When I notice I turn off the headlights and turn them back in and it seems to fix the problem temporarily. This is my first car with HID so I don't know if this is a sign that the bulb is going out or if it's the ballast??? Any info or help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Joel

Switch your bulbs around. If it is still happening on the same side, it's probably the ballast. If it happens on the other side, it's the bulb.

It happened to me TWICE, it should be the bulb so just ask for a replacement from whoever you bought it from.

It's a common problem, a lot of threads on it lately, its 99% the bulb going bad. My suggestion would be to replace with something like Garax 6K's, OEM bulbs are very expensive. But if your under warranty, bulb may be free.

Thanks for all the info guys. I hope it's just the bulb and not the ballast or something worse. I've seen lots of people talk about the Garax and Phillips. Phillips are very pricey though. Are they worth it? Will the Garax 6K suffice?

www.ijdmtoy.com has a 15% off sale going right now.

I ordered a set of Garax 6k D4S a couple days ago for $85 shipped.

Thanks for the link! I think I'll order all the bulbs and hid kits for fog and DRL from here as well.

^ If your talking about facotry HID bulbs, OEM bulbs will not be $40 a pair. No where near that price, they are much more expensive lol

There's a lot of knockoff bulbs for sale on eBay. I'd avoid buying them on eBay if I were you.

OP its your bulbs. I had the same exact problem when I picked up my IS in December.

I just bought these. Total was $106 shipped for a pair of 5000k. A bit pricey, but the quality is guaranteed to be excellent.

EDIT: here is the thread.

40 shipped spunds good. I've had V-hids in my cars and they have treated me well and are only 40 dollars as well. I'd opt for them, but they are always running out of 6000k blue for some reason.

Both Philips & Toshiba-Harison are OEM in many Toyota & Lexus. They are listed as 4300K. Here are links:

Single bulb:

Matching pair:

I work for Toyota/Lexus and see these on the shelf all the time. I compared one with my OEM Philips and they looked identical in color and brightness.

question.
Im planning on getting one of these for my foglights.(http://www.kbcarstuff.com/HID-Kits-s/216.htm)
Is the cheaper one ok for the fogs? I see that the difference is one has a "harness" and one doesnt. Do i need a Harness to convert the fogs into HID?
or
is this a better buy for fogs?
