rcJten, I tried making the rear view mirror blue today. I was able to change out the dimming light, it was a PLCC-2 LED but a 0603 will work fine cause mine's a bit too bright. The compass however, I doesn't seem to use LEDs and it has 16 solder points. I couldn't get it off unless I had desoldering equipment or if I can desolder 8 points at the same time.
At least I got one LED blue and I also lit up my Homelink buttons blue!

Nope, I bought LED panels on eBay. A buck each and these things are crazy bright! I cut them in half for my wells though, so if you use a whole panel, twice as bright! Here's a link if anyone is interested. I have them in my trunk, domes, front and REAR footwells, and door lights.

I did, on the other hand, change out the red light in the key fob. It's an 0603. Blue was to dim to see though so I went with white.

Yeah I was hoping it was made of 8 or 16 segment displays, but I looked at it an it's definently not something you can buy in different colors. The only other option may be inserting a sheet of clear blue plastic in between it and the mirror. I haven't taken it apart though so not sure if it's possible.

It's really easy to take the mirror off, took only 2 minutes without instructions or knowledge of it. Not worth it to open it up. However, I did disable the dimming feature so I no longer need to press the button everytime I drive.

I changed the light next to the "Auto" button on the mirror. Then, I decided to disable Auto-Dimming since I hate it and never use it. So it doesn't light up now. I did put blue LEDs to illuminate the Homelink buttons. I drilled behind the buttons but I realized I should have drilled right under the numbers. But it's done now and it's too bright as well. Too much attention at night but it does cast a nice blue on the dash.

I replaced my rearview "auto" light as well with a blue 1206...yeah it's way too bright. I like the auto dimmer function so I'm gonna had to make a change. I also laid clear blue plastic over the compass and it doesn't work. There are LEDs in the display unit, but it's sealed with epoxy so there's no way to get to it

sorry for reviving this old thread but i was wondering how difficult it is to do this yourself, i heard that if you mess up you can actually 'break' certain parts and it'll be very expensive to replace
