If you have the time. You might give these guys a call about fixing your head unit.

On the navigation discs. For a 2006. You might find a used but newer copy on eBay.
I just went to Lexus and paid the 200 dollars. Or you can play games with Sewell and save a couple of dollars.

helping you bump.
It is time Lexus owns up to the Navigation system and all of the issues that us owners have had to deal with. THE NAVIGATION UNIT WONT EVER become a recalled part since they are not a saftey issue.
I have had to replace the screen once so far that that was another 2600.00, 6 months later my map doesnt work, its giving me a message saying "external unit not connected". The Dealer said I need a new hard drive(I have heard that everytime there is an issue with it).
The service manager finally admitted that the nav unit is prone to a lot of problems and unless there is a class action lawsuit, Lexus wont fix them.
Doing a little bit of research on the issue I know that there are many owners out there that have benefited from a group of individuals coming together with the same issue.
HERE IS WHAT I KNOW TO BE TRUE:
1. If your car is still under warranty and your nav unit has issues, lexus will cover it
2. If they fix the issue you have 1 year of parts and labor coverage
3. Eventually your warranty will expire and you will have to pay out of your pocket if your nav system fails
4. Your Nav system WILL FAIL AGAIN
5. Your Nav system WILL FAIL AGAIN
If you would like to join me in getting Lexus to address this issue please email me with the following:
-Name
-Location
-Bought New or Used
-Model(250 or 350) and year of your IS
-Issues you have had with your Navigation unit
1. Hard Drive gone bad
2. Display screen outage
3. Any other issues that can be grouped together on a mass level
I am not asking for a lot of information here and I am willing to do the leg and foot work to get this going. I am a very easy going individual, not a complainer by any means but I feel just about taking the intiative in getting this started so Lexus can own up their faulty Navigation units that cost over 5k.
I look forward to hearing from as many of you as possible.

Same thing is happening here. 2006 IS350 with 58500 miles. At first it was working intermittently, then once I turned the car off and restarted it after 15 minutes it went out completely. Same symptoms as everyone else. Dealer told me to call Lexus's 1800 customers service number and make a claim with them, but that the nav units run around 6k. Seems steep compared to what you guys are saying. Anyone know of any online deals for replacement nav units?

it's the navi screen that you will need to replace. 2000 for the part and you can replace it yourself. It seems to be happening to people with 06IS350 more than any other model; there was one ISF owner here that had the same issue. I had mine replaced about a year ago....

Sweet. I was researching and only thing I found on the Lexus website was a non detailed list of things, engine, transmission, electronics...etc. Didn't want to get excited when I read that because I know there is fine print. Thanks yet AGAIN for the help calvin!
