poor mpg is250 awd
hey guys i did my fist fuel calculation on my 06 is250 awd and i got 245 miles on a full tank of 91 octane fuel my dash displays im gettin 21.5 average but i did notice 3 of my tires are leaking slowy could this be the reason why my mpg is so poor also i do about 80% city driving.

Properly inflated tires can improve gas mileage by up to 5%. For every under-inflated pound of air, you lose approx .4 % MPG. So if your low pressure light was coming on, you could have been driving with a 30% under-inflated tire/s. You could have been losing 1 to 2 MPG. More importantly, a tire that is under-inflated by 6 psi could lead to tire failure. Also the tire's tread life could be reduced by as much as 25%, not to mention its negative effect on the handling.

I definately agree about ur tire pressures needing to br spot on, but most important u need to be running 93 octane not 91 which will decrease ur fuel mileage due to the rm2 in the fuel which the lower octane does not burn as hot and the ecu is burned for use of 93 octane not 91. I'm not sure where u live but i do now in some states they don't have 93 then u need to run octane booster. I have a 06 isx50 i drive short drives to work (toyota) and i average 18.1-18.8 city driving but i'm not uber conservative but i don't beat on it either. GL

First, read your owners manual. The car is programmed for and requires 91, not 93.
Second, RM2 isn't something "in" the fuel, it's the mathetical formula. (Research Octane + Motor Octane)/2.
Third, "octane booster" sold in stores is a complete waste of money. When the bottle tells you it "raises your octane 8 points" that means it adds 0.8 to the octane. 91 becomes 91.8.

Right now gas stations are running winter blend gasoline, which will give lower mileage. Also you said 80% city, which will trend you lower in the mpg range. 21.5 doesn't sound too terrible to me, the car is rated 20 city 26 highway.

Underinflated tires will definately cause MPGs to go down. I always overinflate mine by 1psi over the recommended.
I have the 250AWD for almost 4 years now and my mileage always drops by 3-4mpg in the Winter. I get ~23 in Summer but only 19 in Winter. It can go below 19 if there is alot of snow or if it is really cold outside. I get 30MPG with 100% highway driving on Summer trips which makes me happy.

I am also in NY with an '06 AWD which I got 2 months ago.
I normally fill up when the display reads 50 to 60 miles remaining... At that point I get about 14 gallons of gas and that lasts approx. 320 miles (mostly hway) which is approx. 23 MPG (the dash reads 23.5 MPG).
