Default Aftermarket Navi and iPod install (Pics)

Just got my 2006 IS350 a couple weeks ago and I just finished my first project on the car. I hardwired my GPS and iPod and thought I'd share some pics. Took me a few hours to complete but that was mostly due to the fact that I didn't really know what I was doing.

It does block the CD player but since I never listen to CD's this works out great for me. If I really wanted to use the CD player I could take the GPS off fairly easily.

Side view, you can see the bracket that I made. I hardwired the GPS and you can see the cable that runs through the gap between the ash tray and the stereo.

Here is a better picture of the bracket that I made. I just used a very thin piece of metal that I found at home depot. A lot of trial and error trying to get the piece cut right.

I hardwired the iPod as well and hid all the cables under the arm rest. I removed the AUX outlet and used the hole for the ipod cable.

There you have it. Not the most professional looking job but I am pretty pleased with my work considering this is the first time I've done something like this.

How did you stick the metal piece for GPS in there? Did you have to take out the stereo? I had an IS without nav once and I made this plastic piece that slide into the ash tray for Tomtom. It worked really well but only thing was it was kind of low. Yours look pretty nice though.

Not bad. Saw one that used the empty speaker hole on the top of that dash that looked pretty good. I guess if I lived in an area where GPS was necessary, I'd consider doing something like this.

I was hoping it was a indash. That looks ghetto but it does save a lot of money.

Yeah, I had to take the stereo out and take it apart to get the peice to fit in there right.

It may look a little ghetto but unfortunately you don't have too many options when it comes to the IS and an aftermarket GPS.

Center speaker grill could make a really good place to mount a portable gps. if someone could just come up with motorized popup it will be so cool and be the first to do it.
