Cool Breaking while going down hill.

When i was comming back home from pismo beach in ca... i noticed my car will downshift while breaking on going downhill and my rpm will shoot up to 4k.... is that normal??? i just switch it to sport mod then back to normal....any advice will be appreciated..

from my knowledge that's normal. my car also does that, and so did my previous car

Yah, it's normal..engine braking isn't bad for your car at all..it saves brake pads and rotors.

Switch to sports mode, and paddle shiftt to 6 if u don't like it

if u put it in sport mode and put it to 6, wouldn't it do the same thing? the lexus's system is like a top gear system, not trying to be mean, just curious.

I think you're right shinbrianj, sports mode makes a difference with upshifting, but for downshifting it's still going to engine brake. Nothing's wrong with the car.

In sport mode the engine braking (downshifting) is more aggressive. Not only will it downshift going down hill, it will hold the gear even if you take your foot off the brake. Great feature!

Yes, I had a little fun with this. It was a little strange at first when I noticed the rough downshifting, but I guess that is the engineers way of making it feel sportier.
