2nd sideview mirror had to be replaced
I've just had my 2nd sideview mirror replaced. First was my passenger side, then my driver side.
They both stoppped working within a few months of each other, which was first noticed when reversing and not tilting down. Yes, confirmed the switch was not in the center. I also confirmed by taking car out of reverse and trying to adjust mirror, nothing.
I did the usual of manually adjusting as sometimes they become stuck. They would work again temporarily. However, would fail more often and eventually not work even after manually moving.
Dealer was great and replaced the entire mirror both times.
No complaints as the car is great and I understand parts will fail. Guess just bad luck with sideview mirrors.

I leave my switch in the center except when I'm parallel parking. Since I rarely do that, I figured I might as well save the wear-and-tear on the mirror adjusting motors.

Me too. Unless you are parallel parking the tilt down feature isn't of much use. I back into a lot of parking garages with concrete pillars and I want to see along side the car to check clearance, so the tilt down feature is of no use in those situations.

I always let my mirrors tilt itself because I like to see edge of my driveway when I'm backing out of it...don't want to run over my grass!!! I'm so used to it now...when I drive other cars I always find myself waiting half a mili-second, anticipating for hte mirrors to tilt....

Yes!!! I've had mine replaced as well, my driver side stopped tilting up and down and a few days later started to work again. My dealer replaced it without question, my consultant said it was a known issue with the IS.

I guess I use mine on a regular basis. When parking, I usually reverse and park next to curb. I park as close as possible to the curb in case someone parks next to me and opens their door wide. Although I park far away, people always manage to park next to me.
