My dealer turned them off with no questions asked.

My dealer wouldnt turn them off for the life of god! said it was safety and told me to bring it up with Lexus of North America and get a waiver from them first before they will turn them off...

If I knew this dealer was such a donkey's butt I would NOT have bought the car from them.

it's totally a waste of electricity and shorten the life of the bulb.
Having the DRL's on also makes the cars alternator wear out faster and places an added load on the battery. Who needs it.

My dealer didn't have a clue that they could be turned off but after I gave them the volumn number, chapter and page number from the Lexus service manual on how to do it, they obliged.

This is from the 2006 GX470 Repair Manual, but the IS should be located in the same area.
It's located in Volume 3, under the Lighting Section on Page LI-10, Customize Parameters, DRL Function (USA only). Default is ON, have it changed to OFF. Simple enough. But most dealers will put a puss on because they don't know that it can be turned off. Just insist on it. If they say they can't do it, then ask them why is the choice even available in the LPS? After I pointed the section out to my dealership service department, they first went and tried it out on the demo GX. Then they did mine and the tech even thanked me for pointing out the section since quite a few customers had asked to turn off the DRL's, but he didn't know it could be done. And he is a Lexus certified class A technician.

You better turn off your stereo, dash lights, and tail lights as well, wouldn't want to wear out the alternator or add excess load on the battery. Your are kidding right?!? That's the funniest excuse I've ever heard. I'm pretty sure all the components are engineered for these normal loads.
