HIDs Installed: XenonDepot 6500k Xtreme Kit (Headlights and Foglights) w/ Pics!
Hello All,
I finally got a chance to install the XenonDepot Xtreme HID 6500k kit for my headlights and foglights. So I just wanted to give a short review, I'm not going to go into details with the actual installation since there's a few write-ups already. I also installed the LED refractors in the parking lights.
Headlights: the install was pretty straightforward. I just followed the write-ups from other posts here. Some people have mentioned why there's no grommet on the relay wires that need to go into the headlight enclosure. It would of been better if there was one, so when I drilled a hole in the headlight cover I cut out a little knotch to fit the wire. After I installed the grommet and wire I just covered the area with silicone. So far so no problems, but I'm in SoCal and the weather here has been good lately.
Foglights: getting access to the foglight wasn't as bad as I though. You just need to remove the plasic screws and two of the metal scres behind the foglights and pry the fender lining to get access to the foglights. I double-sided the ignigter and ballast inside the front bumper and then zip-tied them to a metal bracket inside the bumper to make sure they don't move. For those who use relays you can run the wires in the gap where the windshield washer fluid resovoir is on the driver side and on the passenger side there's a hole below the headlight housing where you can run the wires.
The XenonDepot Xtreme Kit: the install was straightforward like any other HId kit. Including the relay is great! That was one of the reason I chose them. And the relay kit has the proper plugs to plug into your stock harness, no guessing which side is positive and negative. The relay kit looks good quality and the wire lengths are pretty decent. The only issue I had was installing the HID bulbs, the base were a little tricky (took a few tries and some wiggling) and took some effort and a little time to get them in place. I think part of the reason is there's no leverage on the HID bulbs to twist them into place. Also, while I was taking the pics I turned the foglights on and off (not rapidly but within a minute or two) and one of them stopped working. So I turned them off and waited about 5-10 minutes and turned it back and they worked fine. Since I know turning the HIDs on and off isn't good I assume the ballast/igniter was smart enough and that was the reason? Or I hope... BUT since then they've been working fine.
That's all folks, if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. Now check out the pictures!

Looks Great!!!
Yes, if you continuously turn the lights on/off this would happen.
We also have an 8000k kit:

Nice lights. I installed my XD 6000k [not Xtreme] and it looks bluer than yours for some reason. But I do notice the improvment in light output. Can you take a pic of your engine bay? I'd like to see how you ran your wires cuz mine is a little messy and still didn't drill the holes for the dust cover yet.
Thanks

you cant really determine the level of "blue" unless you see it in person due to camera shots being different. you can make a white light turn blue with some camera work.
im thinking about installing the same kit myself.. but still debating whether to go 6500k or 8000k

for those looking at 8k, id recommend the 6k instead.. I drove over a year with 8k and im not going to deny that everyone in the local club loved the way they looked and all but the actual light output at night bothered me a bit, specially during rain.. I 've been driving with 4300k's lately and the difference is very remarkable.. the 6k will give you slight lower light output but it's a lot closer to the OEM with a nice light hue of bluish/purplish.. keep in mind that the blue you see in other OEM cars, specially from far, is from the refraction of the light... look at the last two pics in the first set of this thread, the slight 'blue border' on top of the white light, thats what you see from far in bimmers and such..

Skulinex is correct the blue/purple from OEM cars is from the housing itself, they still use 4300k bulbs. The 6500k from XD looks purplish when looking into the headlight but is pretty white with a slight hint of pruple/blue on objects.
I will try to get pictures of the wires and where I mounted the ballast and igniter.
