Default Question on intalling HID's

Ok, I have a lot of experience with HID conversion kits since i had a 12000K kit in my low beams and a 3000K kit in my GS400, but i was reading a couple post and noticed that everyone is talking about drilling holes in their headlights. Do i really have to drill? I am going to put my 3000K kit in my fogs of the IS and save the 12000K to switch them up every now and then since the fogs use the 9006 bulb size like my GS used. So basically what i am asking in short is do i have to drill into my headlights to install a HID kit in my non xenon headlights? thanks

The hole is drilled into the dust/moisture cover, not the actual headlight for lows... .for fogs no drilling at all.
