Wow, now I don't feel so bad with my little rock chip on my hood!

I'm sorry.....but all glass will crack when hit by hard objects at high rates of speed. It's bad luck...but to blame the vehicle manufacturer (who doesn't make the glass anyways) is just ignorant.

over $1,000 for a new windshield is a ripoff, shop around, also
if you keep putting in little claims, it WILL raise your insurance, you
can count on that..

I read last night that the IS glass as sound absorbing material in it for NVH control. That is why it is expensive. Your interior acoustics will suffer if you go aftermarket.

Well it would take a lot cause one year for an older car I must have went thru 4 windshields.

Long time ago when we use to have harsh winters and it actually snowed a lot in this country, the winters in Minnesota mean sand and salt on the road daily from Nov-Mar. Couple of busted windshields were expected.

The insurance thing is what first came to mind - not required where some of my cars are registered, but definitely worth it.

If you don't have glass insurance, get behind one of those tractor trailers with a "how's my driving?" number and a busted or missing mudflap. Call them up and tell them that the truck spit a rock up and cracked your windshield. They will typically reimburse you for it.
