The film is commonly known as clear bra, it is a clear protection film for your front bumper, hood, side panel and side mirrors to protect the car from rocks and small debris form chipping the paint.

Are they easy to install yourself or do you have to get it professionally done? Who would normally do it - body shop or custom shop?

i ordered the deluxe 3M kit from ebay for ~$200. Found a local authorized 3M installer that installs for all the local Lexus and BMW dealera who is willing to install it for $250. YMMV

I got one from these guys. They use a 8MM 3M film. They sell the entire kit for $185. I paid an extra $30 for the headlight and foglight kit. My brother and I installed it (it took about 3-4 hours) so I got the whole thing for $215.00 plus shipping.

How is that kit? Is it the half hood and half headlight kit? or does it cover the whole thing.

These are the only guys I'd trust. www.premiermobilegroup.com If you go on any high end and exotic car forums and do a search, they are known to be the best there.

It's not a bad kit at all. It goes up about a foot or so up the hood, the entire front bumper, side mirrors and part of the front fenders. The extra headlight/foglight kits covers those entirely too.

If you go to that link in my previous reply, it has an illustration of what exactly comprises that kit.

It's definitely more of an art than a science. I would highly suggest you spring for the extra couple hundred bucks and have a pro do it. Otherwise, you're likely to end up with an install that looks pretty bad. I had a reputable pro do mine and I still had to have him do it 4 times over until the Lexus dealer got it right.

Yup it's hard. I watched my guy do the entire thing and I changed my mind about ever learning how to do it myself. It's just difficult to get the pieces on the right places and then getting the air pockets out that form around curves since you have to stretch the film a little to get the clear bra on without any pockets of air. Also, you have to keep the car and clear bra wet the entire time so the bra doesn't lose its adhesiveness. It could be just me but it looks too much of a hassle to do it but it doesn't look impossible.... but I wouldn't attempt it myself without some practice or at least watching someone do it first. GL with your clear bra.
