I special-ordered a fairly loaded 350 a couple months ago. Back in Nov. I was offered $1000 off MSRP from Lindsey Lexus in Alexandria (without my even asking, as a way to get me into their dealership). Pohanka and Rockville were willing to match it.
I did more calling around, and found a guy in NJ willing to give $3700 off. And that was 3 months ago! Another NJ (large volume) dealership also said he could probably do that. I took that info into my local dealership, and even though they couldn't match it, they were willing to give me a good deal.
What I was learned was, even dealers in the DC market are willing to deal, as long as it's on an isolated basis. They can't afford (nor do they need) to offer every single person who comes in the door 2 or 3 grand off on a hot car. ESPECIALLY if it's a special order. But if you call around enough, you'll eventually find a great price, and then it's just a matter of seeing who's willing to match/beat that price!
Personally, I had a harder time finding a dealership that wasn't sleazy or feeding me misinformation, than I did finding one who'd give me a good price.
