Default New Tires

I've been looking for low noise tires that still have good performance (summer style) and are also have a larger profile than the stock 18" tires.

For my purposes the best choice seemed to be Falken ST-115 (http://www.carsound.com/review_archi...NIS_ST115.html).

I went with 240/40/18 on the front and 255/45/18 on the rear. These fit just fine and do not rub the fenders. The profile is greater than stock (about 1/2" taller; the car is maybe 1/4" taller) and gives a very nice ride. Road noise is less and the joints in the rode are more muted. The larger size also better fits the wheel wells. (I can show some photos in a few days if anyone is interested).

BTW, in the Nav set-up, one can re-calibrate for a change in tires.

FYI. That recalibration doesn't effect the speedo. It's only for the nav in the event it momentarily loses GPS signal (ie. tunnels, parking garage, etc).

True.

As for the actual speed, the differece is trivial. The new fronts show an actual speed that is 2.5% too slow (says 60 MPH when I'd be doing 61.5 MPH). The speed is read off of the front wheels. Since most speedometers run low by 2 to 4 MPH, it is now probably more accurate than before.

Falken makes a good tire. I ran Azensis on my Mustang Cobra for track events. Grip was good, not superb. My only concern was the tires would not talk to me when I stressed them. No squeal at all until you were in deep trouble. Should do well on the street.

TimboIS a little off topic, but I love your signature photo!
