Clearcoat or not?
I got a 350, black on black. What are the advantanges/disadvantages of applying a clearcoat?.
Is clearcoat the same than paint sealant?. Is the OEM paint job already clearcoated?.
Thank you in advance for any feedback.

i am not sure about the new black onyx. the old one yrs ago they weren't clear coated, and i think later on it's clear coated. if i have to guess i would probably say the new ones are cleared as well
and no it's not something you just "add" it like that.... clear coat is just clear paint basically. it's a paint, so you have to apply it in good condition. it's NOT wax

Your Lexus, like virtually all new cars on the market, has a clearcoat paint finish applied at the factory. (Car manufacturers began switching from single stage to clearcoat in the late '70s, and nearly all were using it by the late 80's)

Clear coat is basically paint with no pigmentation. Virtually all new cars are clearcoated. The process is called color coat/clear coat. Without clear the finish would be a dull/mat no gloss. Don't waste your money on dealer applied paint sealers. Just wax it yourself.
