"Semi Limited-Slip"??
Hey all,
Does the IS350 come with LSD?? I keep on reading "semi LSD" from lexus literature. I assume that it has traction control along with VDIM...but does it also have LSD??

Yeah I've heard of that, but never bothered to look into it. I will later, unless someone posts up some info. I dont think it has anything or much to do with VDIM.

It will not have a true LSD, but it offers a "semi-LSD" which is basically an open diff with a conical spring that makes it behave sort of like an LSD. This along with VDIM will allow the car to transfer power to the wheel with the most traction.
This is against my personal beliefs about what a sporty car should be, because instead of using a true mechanical LSD to transfer power from one wheel to another, you have to use the brakes along with a modified open differential to acheive the same result. The brakes will take energy/power out of the system and though it's probably negligable, the engineer in me doesn't like it. It was obviously a manager's decision, lol.
Just a tiny correction(nit-pick) , it doesn't have traction control along WITH VDIM, but rather, VDIM is actually an integration of traction control, and other systems. So basically VDIM IS traction control plus more.

LSD is old school tech. Lexus had some issues with the IS300's Ltd. slip. The new IS350's VDIM did allow some minimal drift when I drove it. VDIM makes the car weather proof. The Bimmer is not. The direct/port dual injection tames the IS350's engine in cold starts. This is the most recent of all technologies from Lexus/Toyota. It doesn't need LSD to feel good.....
