that must be their way of motivating you to get a regular tire/wheel back on.

Default wheel offset?

OK ...

Thanks mods for having this thread to us noobs. (well, Lexus noobs, at least). I have a question regarding wheel offset. Since I live in :canada: , I have to deal with harsh winters thus I would like to have a second set of rims (not OEM).

Besides bolt pattern (5x114.3), could someone give me advice on wheel offsets and rim widths for:

16" rims
17" rims

since those are what I'll probably use for winter tires. I tried looking at Tirerack but they showed suggested rims but no hard numbers. Thanks in advance!

Actually it's 0.4" according to lexus.com. (See ground clearance.)
http://www.lexus.com/models/is/specifications.html

Curiously, the "overall height" differs by as much as 0.6".

I went to lexus' website and it said the ground clearance for RWD is 5.7 in. and AWD is 5.3 in.......did they make a mistake?....shouldn't it be switched around........shouldnt the ground clearance on the AWD be more since its higher?

Sounds like it's a typographical error.

Not necesarily. Though I haven't actually measured the ground clearance of the AWD version myself, it is possible that the extra AWD hardware could account for that 0.4" less clearance on the AWD version....plus the fact that the AWD versions use the same low-profile 45-series tires. Lexus, unlike some other automakers, apparantly does not raise up the AWD versions of their passenger cars over the standard 2WD versions like Audi and Volvo do with the All-Road and XC-70 Cross-Country....and the way Subaru does with both the AWD Legacy and higher-stance Outback.

True but the fact is that the IS250 AWD has noticeably larger wheel gaps than the other IS models. I agree with flipside909 that it's gotta be some kind of typo there.

IS250 = GSE20. I will need to confirm this one as it wasn't available during our test.
