2 -IS 300 coming eventually?
Arhhh, too many magazines. I got to find the article but they state that no hybrid IS is coming, instead a big motor version (5.0 liters came up again), of course the coupe/convert is coming and eventually, a 3.0 IS 300. It MIGHT be another diesal as Lexus is hell bent on breaking through in Europe sales wise.
The new 3.0 diesal would also power the GS in Europe and possibly the RX.

It's just a matter of when not if (just like the GS350). The 3.0L V6 from the GS is just sitting there ready to be used whenever Lexus decides to do so. The only problem might be that once they switch to that V6 it could mean the end of the MT. With the puny 5% take rate projected for the IS250, any further take rate drop could mean then end of an MT offering once drivetrains are upgraded.
Lexus already said it is going to use the BMW formula of trickling out updates thoughout a model run. When sales flatten in 07, an 08 IS300 will be the perfect pick-me up (in terms of sales) - although by that time the diesel might be the real kick in sales.

That only make sense, what are they doing with the 3.0 V6 when the GS300 is upgraded to the GS350 even here by the end of next year ? There's too big of a gap between the 250 & 350 anyway. Of course a V8 IS would always be welcome . . .

well luckily for us, most CL members buy mags with IS reviews :-)
As to the IS300, I am not so sure... IS250 should be fast "enough" for people who do not care about those things, and it should get significantly better MPG than IS300, which is increasingly important in the US (and always been in the europe).
Price difference between comparably equipped IS250 and IS350 should be small enough for anyone wanting to get faster car... If IS350 ends up being actually available for 35k, IS300 is really not needed.
