I like the 1GS IS 300. The style, IMO is still classic, not outdated at all. The new 2IS seems to have nothing much in common with the old model as it did inherit L-finesse style.
I do prefer the short overhang of the 1IS, the 2IS front overhang is a little longer. I like how they kept the curved rear window upwards from the 1IS to the 2IS. The rear is nice, the bumper cutouts with he dual exhausts looks great.
I still find the GS more interesting to look at. The dual headlight front end of the GS is worth the asking price to me. The IS, what I do like is the triangles at the front bumper corners, VERY different and from the LF-C concept.
Both designs are very interesting but IMO, Lexus design as always been underestimated by the press. They see the LS 400/430, the flagship which is a nice but bland car and treat the rest of the lineup as if its the same. IMO, BEFORE the new design language, Lexus had very interesting and different designs.
1. 1st gen SC 300/400 is classic
2. 1GS 300 is designed by Guigario and is classic
2. 2 GS 300/400 started trends many have now copied and it still looks different than most.
3. The RX 300/330 look like no other SUV and influenced others.
4. The LX 470 is the only SUV with split headlights.
5. The 3ES 300/330 looks like no other sedan, love it or hate it.
6. The SC 430 looks like no other coupe/convertible, love it or hate it.
7. The IS 300 with the Altezzas CLEARLY Set trends.
8. Lexus made yellow fog lamps cool. many people with other brands do this mod.
9. Lexus invented the electrolumicient/optiron gauges other car makers use.
So for the press to say Lexus had no design is quite frankly full of monkey crap.
L-finesse is nice b/c it gives Lexus its own look away from Toyota more and gives it some new heritage to base new cars on.
One thing that I do think people like about Lexus is they DO NOT all look alike. They are not ALL different sizes of the same design.
L-finesse is great as each car has a different interpretation of it.

The new IS in my opinion, is outstanding... The only thing in my opinion is that it is too different tahtn the old one... I admit it is better, but wont the price JUMP, for the added features
