2001 IS300 Wire Harness Burnt/Melted- Help
Hey Everyone,
I just purchased a 2001 IS300 and have come across some issues. First of all, when you have the stereo on and turn on the headlights, the speakers go mute. Seller claims he wired the stereo the wrong way. Also one of the running lights in the headlight housing burnt out. After going to install a new bulb, I realized some burnt wires in the harness wrapped in tape.
The passenger side wiring harness going from the fuse box in the passenger kick panel thru the firewall and to the head light assembly. The bundle of wires that goes to the brake system are fine but the ones to the headlights and on are melted.
I have been searching for a good wire diagram but have not found a good one yet. With the diagram I would be able to locate the damaged wire.
What are some suggestions? Look for a new harness? Replace the damaged wire in sections? Re-wire each damaged wire?
I'm going to re-wire the stereo tomorrow and see if the wire harness is the reason for the speakers to mute or if its a poor install.
I would appreciate any input. I will also post some pics soon.

if its just the pigtails melted, directly off of the bulb... you can buy new pigtails for around 8.99 at almost any auto parts store, as for the stereo problem. i would recommend unplugging the harness that plugs into your factory radio harness, and rewiring it yourself.. Hope this helps.
