2003 IS300 info?
Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a 2003 IS300 e-shift soon, has about 138K on the clock, and I'm just looking for some info about it.
I know it should have it's timing belt changed out at 90k, how would I go about checking that aside from asking the seller?
Were there any common problems with this year?
Everything seems really clean the exterior, and the interior is really good, haven't gotten a chance too look at the engine and everything. It's also the Sport Design, what all is included in that trim package?
Thanks for your advice!

The dash tends to "melt" but i haven't experienced that yet. Sport design has a slightly different suspension, 11-spoke rims, Black pearl emblems and a 2 bar grille (03 only). What color is your car? Sport design had exclusive colors.

2003 didn't have any specific problems for that year. They have the common problems of any 2002+ IS. The dash is the biggest thing I think. Depending on how many miles are on it, you might want to check the control arm bushings(or as many bushings as you can). I can't really think of a way to tell if the timing belt was done. Some people have changed their timing belts and the new and old belts looked pretty much the same. Just make sure there aren't any huge cracks in the timing belt.

Ask for documentation with the VIN if available. Even if no docs are available, it's possible that it was done. I know a Lexus tech, and he did mine in his spare time. If the seller did the 90K, the water pump was probably replaced. If that's the case, depending on how long it's been, the water pump may look newer than the rest of the engine components. If it were me, I would pay to have a Lexus dealership do a pre-purchase inspection.
