Buying an IS300, NEED HELP
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie to this form and I really love it! I've been researching the IS300's for a while and am pretty sure I want to buy one. My dilema is with the gas mileage. 18/22 is what I believe is advertised, but I'm wondering how that translates into today's prices. I've read many owner reviews where on the scale of 1-10(highest), owners have rated the fuel economy as low as 2 and as high as 8. 6&7's were pretty common.
I currently have a '94 Integra (auto) which has a higher mileage rating that the IS, but because I have so many miles on it, (222K) the mileage has slipped a bit which will makes it difficult for me to compare the two. I'd appreciate finding out:
1) what mileage you guys are getting. I'm nervous I won't be happy with the gas mileage. I know how you drive makes a difference, but your input will still be valuable.
2) your experience with cost of ownership. Is maintenance expensive??
3) I plan to purchase a 2004 with about 55K miles. I found one for just under $16K and I've checked both carfax and autocheck...clean title! What do you think?
Thanks, in advance, for your help!!

well b4 gas got stupid was paying about 40 bucks or so for a fill up roughly $2.50 a gallon. also made great use of the mpg gauge in the cluster dont really know how accurate it is but i tried to keep my speed so it would read close to 30mpg in town and on the highway i was good for about 400 miles. i've made a couple of trips from tucson to flagstaff Az one way is about 400 or so miles and that will consume one tank of gas. i would say IS' have pretty decent gas mileage if you dont drive around with a led foot 24/7.

if you want an is buy one i dont think you'll regret it. but dont buy it for the mileage. because like you already know its not great. i havent calculated mine lately but i have been getting about 220-240 by the 3/4 tank mark which is where i normaly fill up at. but i average about 110-120mph on the way to work in the mornings on 3out of 5 days a week. but i didnt buy it because it great on gas i got it to have fun. because its a sporty has good tunning potential and its a 4dr(the last one is all my wife, i wanted an s2k).
if you want a car thats good on gas buy a prius or smart for2 or something of the like. i hope i'm not sounding mean because i dont want to be, i just dont want you to buy the car and then sell it later on because you cant afford the gas or dont want to afford it. but it is a realy great car to drive. i wouldnt give mine up for anything.

Yeah , like everyone else has said, gas mileage cannot be your first factor in buying an IS. Im averaging about 22mpg overall between highway and stop and go with an auto. I bought mine simply as a decent daily and i love it much more than i thought i would. Most 2J's wont get great mileage but i figure i bought mine for a good price, no payment for me more than makes up for the gas mileage but you wont be disappointed.
