Default First ever oil change

Hello everyone,

My car has a little over 3k miles, and I was wondering
at what mileage I should have the break-in oil changed.
Does the dealer do the first oil change for free?
What type of oil should I use?

Thanks in advance.

Default Thanks Rominl

I bought a case (qty 6) of Mobil 1 5W-30 from Costco
for under $25.
Btw, do you use the V8's oil filter, or the IS300 OEM filter?

Use the factory 5k mile oil intervals. Lexus provides your first oil change for free which is your scheduled 5k mile service. Everyone has their say on the synthetic hype. I use Castrol GTX 5w30 and a Genuine Toyota Oil Filter every time I can. Just got my 30k service finished this weekend on my 11.5 month 2004.

30k on a 2004....lol... You spend A LOT OF TIME behind the wheel... I was shaking my head the other day because I have 18k on my 04.

Oil change. I had first oil changed @ 1000 miles. I've built a couple engines through the years and that was always the norm on a new engine (break in and seating debris floating in the oil). I doubt that is the case so much with the new engines. But I felt better having it done.

I talked with the Lexus mechanic about synthetic vs. regular oil. He said not to waste my money on synthetic oils. If a person was regular about his/her oil change, then they would gather no benefit from the greater cost of the synthetic over regular. I've ran synthetic in all my cars over the years and never really felt any benefits (and it was damn expensive back in the early 90's). I still run synthetic in my wifes Toyota truck, engine, trans and rear diff. and will continue to do so until she upgrades vehicles. I'm not sure if I will swap her next rig over to synthetic or not.

Here is something to think about. Do you keep your cars long enough to benefit from the cost of synthetic over regular oils?

I also use gunuine toyota filters. Between my family and my mom and dad we've got 4 rigs running those same exact filters. WE BUY BULK.... It's not too expensive to buy a case from the Toyota dealership and stick them in your shop. I also change the filter EVERY oil change.

Yes! 6 times to NorCal and 100 mile round trip everyday adds up! I have a 2nd car (99 Solara SE V6 5spd mildly modded and 94k miles) and i've been driving the IS 90% of the time since I first got it last year. The IS in stock form is way more fun than my Solara...despite the mods and etc!

don't blame you a bit. The IS is extremely comfortable on long trips. I put down just over 50 a day to and from work, plus a butt load of time on I-5 from Portland to Roseburg.
