What Radar detector are you using

The Valentine 1 is very sensitive to lidar (904-905nm) and picks it up almost everytime, including laser guided cruise control systems from other vehicles. (annoying, but that's part of the game)

Hey guys, I'm soon heading on a road trip and my first stop is Chicago. I live in Ontario Canada so because detectors are illegal, we don't have them sold on display at major retailers. Based on this thread, the passport 9500XI is most popular. I'm assuming this is for radar. Can anybody recommend a detector for laser/radar and what retailer I can just walk into and grab one, thanks.

Now if it's just an RD for a road trip in the US, try to get something like an Escort 8500 X50 or a Valentine 1. I would personally go with the Valentine 1, the arrows never lie.
I wouldn't bother with Cobra, Whistler, Uniden etc.

It is, but the main point is this: no matter what detector you choose, it's useless against laser (AKA: lidar)
Encountering laser and wishfully thinking your detector will save you will not work, it takes the beam less than a second to acquire your speed. By the time you even think about braking, he already has your speed.

your best defense against laser is to get a jammer

king of the hill for detectors is the escort max. the 9500ix and v1 are good but hardware in them is getting old

The Valentine 1 is upgradable and still does wonders with radar, especially on I-5.

I agree. From what I've read, the Anti-Laser Priority is the top jammer as far as technology and ability to update.
