Dash Cam installation Suggestions
Hi guys, I'm planning on installed a dash cam (front and rear) and I want to hardwire it into the fuse box.
Has anyone here done this? I've only seen one other person who has installed it into the rear view mirror but I want the parking mode to work when the car is not on.
Is there a fuse box under the passenger dash? and if so which fuse would you suggest I wire into?

I'm using G1Wh that I didn't hard wire yet, it's the best value for a quality you get $50-$60 range. Wanted to go with Lucas brand, they are nice and small, you can hide it behind rear view mirror. For now my cheap dashcam will do, I'm really surprised how good quality videos it records, last week I found out that my wife did a short little drift lol unexpectedly, time to take her for some parking lot snow drifting lessons .

I bought this and mounted behind my rearview. I chose this due to it using USB and it has lithium rechargable batteries so while the car is off it records only if there is movement or sound. Was looking at the lucas as well but this has an lcd screen so u can watch playback.

You really should look at something like this: Blackvue dr650gw-2ch
I currently use the Blackvue 600GW 1Ch but I don't care about the rear camera. I've been using mine for about 4 months now and its been perfect. I like the ability to link up to the camera via its builtin Wifi and you can review the video footage on your smartphone. It also shows you a live view so you can adjust the camera accordingly to get the best view.
The other thing you really have to consider is if you leave these cameras in the car during the summer time. Most of the cheap cameras will start recording bad video or just fail to startup at all from the heat. Make sure you take the time to read all the reviews on these cameras as well.

I was going to go with the Blackvue but I wanted a front and rear camera that records in HD, unfortunately even the blackvue 650 only records full HD up front. I went with a company I stumbled upon while doing my research.
Also I wanted something discreet that won't stand out if left on the car, the Blackvue is ok but the Cowon Auto Capsule AW2 ticks all the things I want (link below) it is slightly smaller, has wifi and playback ability and can stand up to high temps (supposedly) records full HD front and rear too .
Only downside is it's not available in the states so I've had to order it from Korea direct.

I have a Blackvue DR-650GW. Great cam, and yes the rear only records in 720P HD. But my tint is so dark in the rear that it doesn't really make a difference cause the image quality is going to be too dark anyways. I have the rear cam in there just for the sake of capturing some action, and don't count on it capturing any license plates. But in bright enough condition's it does capture plates.
if you want Full HD 1080P front and rear and don't mind a big *** display then get one of these:
I have it hardwired into the car and to do this you need one of these. This will allow you to use the camera's parking feature that records in standby when the car's ignition is off:

There are 3 wires. Earth, Power and ACC. For earth I just tapped it up to some metal. Power I hooked it up to the power seats fuse. As for ACC, there is a direct fuse for ACC. The fuse box is a very small white box under the drivers side dash.
This is a good video outlining tapping into the fuse box and how to run wiring:

Forgot to mention, the reason why you want the hard wiring kit I mentioned above is so that the cam does not drain your battery. The hard wire kit kills power to the cam with both/either combination settings of voltage and time.

I did not install it in the ISF yet. I actually just got the car 2.5 weeks ago. Hopefully I will have some time this weekend, but I still need to do other maintenance on the car first.
