Whine Remains after Belt & Tensioner Replacement
2008 ISF. Has made whining sound (like a supercharger) off and on since '11 and 30k miles.
Clearly coming from accessory belt system.
Having read this forum I assumed it was the tensioner, and finally replaced it last week @ 52k. Spun all pulleys by hand and all felt/sounded fine. Actually the old tensioner seemed fine too, even the belt- no cracks or wear, so I didn't replace belt at first, just tensioner.
Well new tensioner reduced the sound just a little, but still there at times, so I replaced the belt with a goodyear gatorback and that made the whine worse than ever. So I put the old belt back on, and am currently still dealing with some whine,
I don't have another ISF to compare to, but it can't be normal.
It's not loud in cabin, my friends don't think anything of it, but I hear it and it's embarrassing.
Since I cant hear or feel an issue with any of the pulleys, is there a logical order in which I should start replacing them? I'm at a loss as for what to do next. I can't pinpoint where noise originates since it only occurs under load while I'm driving, but it's certainly from the accessory belt system.
Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated.

Mine whines as well. It started off small and then got louder like I installed a roots blower. haha. I thought it could be somewhat related to the water pump. Lexus replaced it and it still whines. I'll diagnose it in the spring time. If you find out what the problem is please update us.

There was a big discussion on this and this seems to be normal on all of our cars. I read they updated the tensioner and belt on the RCF motor and it doesn't whine but we can't use the same setup.

Thanks for the replies. I too hoped the water pump replacement would have some effect on the whine, but when it was replaced at 49k there was no change in the sound. What is the most wild is how much louder it is when I swap the original belt with 52k on it, for a new goodyear gatorback belt. The new belt (obviously not as loose and broken in as the orig.) is absurdly loud.

If a new tensioner and new belt did not resolve the issue, I would suspect it to be one of the pulleys. Considering also it got louder when you put the new belt in. The new belt, even if you tensioned it the same, when under operation can place a different/tighter tension on the pulleys, making the whine louder. Spinning the pulleys by hand will not tell you which one is making any noise because they aren't under tension when you spin them.
