rear differential shutter. normal?
Hi all
I have a 2012 isf. 2nd owners with 24000kms on it. I have my share of spirited driving but don't particularly bag on the car. No burn outs.
Since the first day I have had the car, I noticed that when I am at a stand still and start accelerating to execute a turn, it feels like my rear differential shutters. There is no weird noises. No clunks. Car runs very smooth otherwise.
Is this normal?

During slow tight turns under the right circumstances a LSD can break the rear tire(s) loose for a split second and might feel like a shutter. If you notice only certain turns do it, and if you can hear the tires chirp that would indicate to me normal LSD operation
The inside and outside wheels travel different distances during a turn. The LSD tries to balance the ratio so that the wheels travel smoothly like an open diff while also keeping power to both wheels like a locked diff. Sometimes it can't keep the proper ratio and the tires break loose

shutter = stutter? No idea what shutter is unless it's a camera part.

Thanks for the explanation. That is what it feels like. And with my tires getting down to the replacement mark, it feels like it's easier to lose grip in the rear so perhaps what I am experiencing is the LSD/e-lsd under certain turns and giving it a bit more gas then the tires can grip?
My apologies, shudder..

Not the eLSD. It does not operate below 20 mph according to the documentation on VDIM.

The OEM Torsen LSD of 2012 is not noted for doing that under light throttle. However one fitted with an aftermarket clutch pack LSD it is pretty common. In short, the higher the load (heavier foot) and sharper the turn any LSD can induce some wheel slip depending on the level of traction or lack there of.
Because it's new to you (or not) I'd dump the fluid. The thing is is that a clutch style LSD has different fluid requirements! That said a visual inspection may be needed (what carrier assembly is in there, Torsen or clutch style) if there are no supporting documents.
FWIW eLSD needs a fair amount of slip before activation. Likely not related to this issue.
