Under acceleration when close to the limit of adhesion during high speed long sweeping turns I was noticing an oil smell last year. I can't say if it was R, L or both turning directions since its been a full winter since I have driven the car.

I'm using Mobile 1 5w30, a stock air box and I have headers. I'm also running 305 PSS tires, and a pretty well modified suspension. I have no facts to back this up but I am assuming because of my setup that I can get a little more lateral acceleration then most.
Maybe that combined with the fact that I'm pushing the car harder then most guys is the answer as to why no one else has mentioned this before? But, at the same time.....a bunch of you guys have an LSD, track your car or drift/whip donuts.
I have zero oil consumption, no leaks and good test results from Blackstone. My only thought is that I am pushing a little oil in to the crank case breathers during this hard cornering.

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this. The few guys that I have asked including some that track there car said they don't recall ever having this issue.

I'm about to pull the car out for the season to start driving it again. I was pondering a different weight oil as a diagnostic tool. Maybe 10w30, 5w40 or 10w40. Maybe just not using Mobile 1 would also help since it always seems thin to me. It blows by easy under high boost in turbo cars from my experience.

I do have the occasion smell of oil...albeit hard to tell when the windows are rolled down and I'm wearing a helmet. I initially thought that it may have been another car in front of me, but soon figured out it was mine.

It has not concerned me enough to try and remedy or figure out why. I always just assumed it was inherent to running hot, and it is permeating through the fire wall into the cabin or attributed to the single cat I removed with the modified exhaust that I have. I use Castrol Edge Titanium 5W30.

are you sure its not just the smell of the plastics and rubber under the hood just getting hot. If theres no oil consumption I would stress it too much .

Yea, mine is definitely oil. Oil doesn't have to show signs of consumption to smell or make a mess. One drop on the exhaust is enough for my nose to pick up. I will say that I notice it coming from the vent through the fresh air cowl.

Thanks Joe, I'll check the rear plugs in the next few days. Am I expecting oil on the coil side or combustion side? I'm just trying to figure out where your going with this. Spark plug well via V.C. gasket or intake through the combustion chamber.

Bumping this thread up. I'm experiencing the same thing since I installed headers.

Where were you going by saying to inspect rear plugs?

The rear plugs can sometimes have issues with O rings which seal the valve cover to the head.

Max16, did the recent header install eliminate all catalytic converters from your car? If yes, then that's the reason for the smell.

It's not smelling gas but oil, that's why it's weird to me.
