Sears. I put some heavy duty sears battery in my STi. Though heavy, my car started easily in some very nasty temperatures.

Same for the alternator. You can have a MILLION amp alternator (if they made one) and if your electrical demands were only 110a, it would only draw 110a.

I measured the cold cranking amps of our starter - its about 500-550 amps when starting from cold. Just in case anybody wondered.

You want to get a proper battery hold-down, since the OEM bar won't fit properly. There are a few out there, but I went with the BRL-6188 hold kit and used that in combination with one of the factory J bolts to secure mine. Not perfect, but once done, it's too light to shift anywhere. I'll probably look around for something better, eventually.

Otherwise, the motor fires up fine and no issues at 32 F, so far (as we head into colder weather). Mine is daily driven.

As long as you are not a battery snob, Wally World sells excellent batteries made by Johnson Controls at a great price with a 3.5 year warranty. Living where you do, WW batteries will work just fine. Even where I live in AZ where batteries can trash in under 2 years because of the heat, WW's do better than many unless you are going high end like Optima.

Great info! My biggest concern was securing all six pounds of it, but as long as it's safe with the hold kit and powers the car, that's all we need. Thanks again!

keep in mind, if you go with something a LITTLE bigger then stock, and you cannot use the metal case.....you should get some sort of heat shield for it. The motor is so close to the battery it will deform the plastic case and cause issues. I learned the hard way lol. I am all good now but i didn't realize just HOW close it was until it was too late. It didn't leak but it did start to bulge from the heat. It's been fine ever since i replaced it and used a heat wrap.
