There's no hard truth, but these are my impressions based on research:
Compared to the Escort Passport 9500xi, the V1 has better range but will also false more due to its sensitivity. The 9500ix has built-in GPS and records false traps, the V1 does not. The V1 has arrows, the 9500ix does not. Both are very good.
Compared to the Escort Redline, the V1 is about the same range-wise (the Redline might be just a touch better in some tests). The Redline doesn't have arrows since they're patented by V1.
In other words, if you live in an area where falsing will be a problem, the 9500ix would be a better choice. If you're concerned with the ultimate range, it's either the V1 or the Redline. I personally stick with the V1 because I can't live without the arrows.

Typically, you'd have to be doing at the minimum 15mph+ over the posted speed limit to get popped. Be happy/glad he wrote you for only going 70mph (just 15+). I believe the penalties/fines would have been different had he written you for going 25+ the speed limit.

Yes, honesty works. I pulled over immediately before he lit me up and was honest and respectful. Trust me, with all the s(hit that these guys hear and deal with, your like a vacation to them when they walk up to your car.
V1 is on the way so this problem doesnt happen again.

Lockton Affinity offers track day insurance nationally for most HPDEs. It's not exactly cheap, but if you need it, it's not expensive at all.

Sorry, but this is only true in North Carolina. In all the other states the major insurance companies state very clearly you are not covered while on a "racing surface" so they are not responsible for your accident at an HPDE.

Will my insurance cover my car while on track?
This depends on the insurance carrier and your policy. Many policies remain in force as long as the car is not used in a speed timed event or non-competitive event held on private property Note: All The Drivers Edge events are non-timed & non-competitive held on private property. If you have concerns we recommend you read your policy before thinking about calling your agent… If it is not stated in your current policy or any updated supplements you are covered. Note: If you still have concerns, there is also an option to purchase event specific insurance if you feel the need please contact us for more information rick@thedriviersedge.net. Note: The Drivers Edge events have many tools in-place to lesson the risk factor (it is far less of a risk than driving on the public road just getting to the track). All of our events are held on control environment (privately owned) race facility with designated controlled passing zone utilizing highly trained in-car instructors and classroom instructional setting.

Nice, but they're not insuring your car. I've dug into this extensively. None of the carriers cover an incident on a racing surface except in North Carolina because state law prohibits this exclusion.
Five years ago, they were right. It is no longer true. For example, my insurance agent totalled his Boxster at Road Atlanta in 2004. Allstate paid in full. When I asked if this was still true, they checked and said, no, you need supplemental insurance.

Charlotte has been on my top of my target list for a couple of years now. Just can't leave my house in Atlanta...
